The monthly service

Monthly bookkeeping

The core engagement. Your books stay current all year instead of being reconstructed under pressure in March. Receipts, invoices and statements in Spanish are recorded directly, not translated first — one less place for a number to change on its way into your books.

  • Transaction categorization Every bank and credit card transaction coded to the correct account. Recurring vendors get bank rules so the same expense is treated the same way every month — consistency is what makes month-to-month comparisons mean anything.
  • Bank and credit card reconciliation Reconciliation means matching your books to your actual bank statement, line for line, until they agree to the penny. It is the single most important control in bookkeeping and the one most commonly skipped. It's how duplicate charges, missing deposits, and unauthorized transactions get caught.
  • Chart of accounts maintenance Your chart of accounts is the list of buckets your money gets sorted into. Built right, your P&L answers real questions. Built wrong, everything lands in "Miscellaneous" and tells you nothing.
  • Monthly financial statements Profit & loss, balance sheet, and on request a statement of cash flows — delivered as PDFs on a fixed schedule, not whenever you remember to ask.
  • Written month-end summary A short plain-English note: what changed, what stood out, and anything worth a second look. Included in every plan.
  • Year-end package for your CPA A reconciled file, trial balance, and supporting schedules, handed over in the format your tax preparer expects — plus a direct line to me for their questions.

Cleanup & catch-up

If you're months or years behind, that gets fixed once, as its own project, before any monthly work begins. Starting a monthly plan on top of broken books just means paying to maintain a mess.

How it works: a free diagnostic review tells us how far back the gaps go and how bad they are. You get a written, fixed quote for the cleanup before it starts — not an open-ended hourly meter.

Common triggers: a lender wants financials, a CPA refused to file until the books are fixed, a previous bookkeeper left mid-year, or the business simply outgrew a spreadsheet.

A cleanup typically includes

  • Rebuilding or repairing the chart of accounts
  • Categorizing every uncoded historical transaction
  • Reconciling every month back to the last verified balance
  • Finding and removing duplicate entries
  • Separating personal spending that landed in the business file
  • A written summary of what was wrong and what was fixed

QuickBooks Online setup

For a new business, or one moving off spreadsheets. Getting the foundation right the first time costs a fraction of correcting it two years in.

One honest warning about plan selection. QuickBooks Solopreneur and Self-Employed are cheap and cannot produce a balance sheet. A bookkeeper who puts you on one — or leaves you on one — and calls your books "tax-ready" has saved you a few dollars a month and left you without the statement a lender asks for first. Simple Start is the realistic floor for usable financials.

A setup typically includes

  • Selecting the right QuickBooks Online plan for your needs
  • An industry-appropriate chart of accounts
  • Secure, read-only bank and credit card feeds
  • Bank rules for your recurring vendors
  • Opening balances set from a verified starting point
  • A walkthrough so you can find what you need yourself

What Faro does not do

Being clear about the boundary is part of doing this properly. Faro does not prepare or file tax returns, represent you before the IRS, run payroll, provide investment advice, or perform audits or any attest service. Those require credentials I don't hold, and pretending otherwise would put you at risk. Where you need a CPA, an Enrolled Agent, a payroll provider, or an attorney, I'll tell you plainly — and I work alongside them.

Not sure which of these you need?

That's exactly what the free consultation is for. Thirty minutes, no pitch, and an honest recommendation even if it isn't me.
