Bookkeeping for small businesses in Rhode Island

You started the business to do the work, not to sort receipts at eleven at night. Hiring a bookkeeper moves the categorizing, the reconciling and the month-end statements off your desk, at a flat monthly price you know before you sign anything.

Who this is for

If your books are in a shoebox, on a spreadsheet, or six months behind

Most of the small businesses that call me are not in trouble. They are busy. The work got done, the money came in, and the recordkeeping slid to the bottom of the list until something forced it back up: a tax deadline, a loan application, a landlord asking for financials.

That is a normal place to start, and it is fixable. It is not a reason to spend another quarter guessing at your own numbers.

You do your own books and you are behind

The bank feed in QuickBooks has hundreds of uncategorized transactions and you have stopped opening it.

You run the business out of a spreadsheet

It tells you what came in. It does not tell you what you actually earned, what you owe, or what you can afford to take out.

Your tax preparer keeps asking for things

Every March turns into a scramble because nobody kept the books current through the year.

Business and personal money share an account

Common, and worth untangling. It clouds every number you would use to make a decision.

You need financials someone else will read

A lender, a landlord or a partner wants a profit and loss statement and a balance sheet that will stand up to a close read.

The monthly work

What a small business bookkeeping service actually does each month

Bookkeeping is not one task. It is the same handful of tasks, in the same order, every month, so the numbers at the end mean something. This is the whole cycle, in plain English.

  • Every transaction categorized Each charge and deposit is assigned to the right account: supplies, contractors, rent, owner draw. That coding is what turns a bank statement into a profit and loss statement.
  • Accounts reconciled to the statement Reconciliation means matching your books line by line to what the bank actually says. It is how a missing deposit or a double-charged subscription gets caught in the same month it happens.
  • Monthly profit and loss, and a balance sheet Two reports, every month, not once a year. One shows what the business earned; the other shows what it owns and owes.
  • Documentation kept where it belongs Receipts and invoices attached to the transactions they support, so a question two years from now has an answer.
  • Questions asked while you still remember One short list a month. What was this $840? Is this vendor a contractor? Asked in February, not the following March.
  • A clean year-end handoff Your CPA or Enrolled Agent gets books that are already closed and reconciled. Cleaning up someone else's records is the most expensive hour on a tax bill, and this is how you stop paying for it.
Price

What it costs, published, before you call

Bookkeeping here is quoted at a flat monthly rate, and the rates are published. No hourly billing, no invoice that surprises you because a month ran long, and no contract locking you in.

Most owner-operated businesses land on Starter or Essentials. What moves the number is how many transactions run through the business each month and how many accounts they run through — not how big your revenue is.

Starting at $350 a month

Starter covers up to 30 transactions a month and Essentials up to 50 — the same service, sized to what actually runs through the business. Growth adds accounts, volume, receivables and payables, and a quarterly call to walk through the numbers together.

If your books are behind, catching them up is quoted separately as a one-time project, so you are not paying a monthly fee for history. See the full pricing

Where I work

Rhode Island first, and the Massachusetts line is ten minutes away

Faro is based in Pawtucket and works with businesses across Rhode Island.

Providence East Providence Central Falls Cranston Warwick Woonsocket Cumberland Lincoln North Providence Coventry Bristol

Pawtucket borders Attleboro and Seekonk directly, so nearby Massachusetts is served the same way. Taunton and Fall River are a short drive further, and those are approximate distances, not exact ones.

Attleboro Seekonk North Attleborough Rehoboth Swansea Taunton Fall River

The work itself is remote, so geography matters less than it used to. Bank feeds, secure document sharing and a scheduled call do what a drive across town used to do. I am also close enough to meet in person when a client would rather do that.

Getting started

How it starts

Three steps, and the first one costs nothing.

  1. A free 30-minute call. Come with three things: how you invoice, how many bank and card accounts the business uses, and roughly how far behind the books are. That is enough for a real answer instead of a range.
  2. A written quote and scope. A flat monthly price, what is included, and a separate catch-up quote if the books need one. In writing before any work starts.
  3. The first close. Access set up, the current month closed and reconciled, and your first profit and loss statement in hand.

Faro Bookkeeping provides bookkeeping services only. It does not prepare tax returns, represent clients before the IRS, or give tax, legal or investment advice.
